1.35M illegal cigarettes seized in central Alberta: RCMP
A two-month investigation led to an enormous seizure of contraband tobacco merchandise in central Alberta in August.
In a information launch Tuesday morning RCMP mentioned the Purple Deer GIS drug staff searched three properties in Purple Deer, Lacombe County and Morningside, Alta., on Aug. 27, 2021 and “seized 1.35 million unlawful cigarettes, roughly $14,000 money, a stolen Dodge Challenger and contraband hashish merchandise.”
Based on RCMP, the retail worth of the seized cigarettes was greater than $1 million.

Purple Deer RCMP
Police mentioned their investigation revealed “a wholesale provider of contraband tobacco merchandise was working out of Purple Deer,” and being distributed to a variety of places round Alberta.
The three properties that had been searched had been all linked to the suspect.
Chrys Tremblay, 43, of Purple Deer has been charged with:

- two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
- promoting unstamped tobacco merchandise below the Exise Act;
