1 dead, others injured in bus attack in California

SPRING, CALIF. – A shooting on a Greyhound bus in Northern California left one person dead and several others injured before the attacker was arrested inside a nearby Walmart, police said late on Thursday night. Private.

Police received a 911 call shortly after 7:30 p.m. that someone was opening fire inside a bus outside an ampm convenience store in Oroville, north of Sacramento, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office Butte County.

The sheriff’s office said deputies to the sheriff and Oroville police found several people with gunshot wounds and one person dead at the scene despite lifesaving measures.

The attacker fled before officers arrived but made 911 calls, they identified the suspect inside a Walmart and arrested him, authorities said.

The number of people shot and their conditions were not immediately released, although Oroville Mayor Chuck Reynolds said earlier on Facebook that five people were shot at the ampm site.

Other details of the shooting, including the motive, were not immediately released.

Oroville is about 104 kilometers north of Sacramento.
