Waterloo Public Health reported one new COVID-19-related death and 32 other positive tests for coronavirus on Tuesday.
“Today we report a death in our community related to COVID-19,” said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, medical officer.

“The person is a male in his 70s. I would like to express my deepest sympathies to this individual’s family and loved ones.”
The death toll in the region related to the virus has now reached 309, with two victims as of December this year.
The overall number of cases in the region now stands at 21,177 while the seven-day average of daily new cases continues to rise, now standing at 37.6.
Another 20 people have also been cleared of the virus, pushing the number of resolved cases in the region to 20,569.
There are 11 people currently being treated at hospitals in the area due to virus infection, of which 3 are in need of intensive care.
Waterloo Public Health reported two new COVID-19 outbreaks on Tuesday, including one involving Glencairn Public Schools in Kitchener and another involving the ringette.
There are currently 14 active COVID-19 outbreaks in the area including 9 linked to schools in the area while the remaining 5 are connected to a workplace.
Includes nine school outbreaks including one involving 15 at Southridge Public Schools in Kitchener, which has been closed until the new year.
The outbreak involving Bless Sacrament Catholic School in Kitchener, which closed for in-person instruction last month, has ended.
On the flip side of the ledger, Waterloo Public Health reports that there have now been 943,465 COVID-19 vaccinations performed in the region, 1,723 more than the figure reported Monday.
In addition, 455,584 people in the area are now fully vaccinated, 212 more than 24 hours ago.
This means that 75.27% of residents in the area are now fully vaccinated.

Elsewhere, Ontario reported 928 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, as the number of cases continues to grow on a weekly basis. The total number of provincial cases is now 625,312.
By comparison, last Tuesday saw 687 new cases and the previous Tuesday 613 cases. All three Tuesdays had a similar number of tests in the 30,000 range.
Of the 928 new cases recorded, data show 424 unvaccinated, 26 partially vaccinated, 401 fully vaccinated, and 77 with unknown vaccination status.
According to Tuesday’s report, 163 cases were recorded in Toronto, 85 cases in York Region, 58 cases in Sudbury, 51 cases in Windsor-Essex and 50 cases in Hamilton. All other local public health units reported fewer than 50 new cases in the provincial report.
The death toll in the province rose to 10,036 as seven more deaths were reported.
