2022 has been a strange year for Breath of the Wild glitches, with one particular glitch spawning countless other discoveries at a rate never seen before and breaking Breath of the Wild forever. With this being the last year before the sequel, let’s look back and see what happened in 2022. Space Exploration: On January 22, LegendofLinkk players discovered it by having an absurd amount of bomb arrows and a combination of two other glitches, the Mount of Death Storage and the Moon Jump, you can detonate Link through Breath of the Wild’s ceiling windbox and escape into space in accordance literal meaning. The player has escaped from Hyrule before, but it usually goes down or out, never as high as this, so this is a never-before-seen view of Hyrule.
Inventory Shifting: On June 17, zxrobin showed off something strange in a short video about bilibili. He explains that he can duplicate an entire stack of documents with a new discovery. By using menu overloading, and then holding and dropping items before and after the event, a concept similar to Item Switching. But this time it was different, because then he threw the sold document on the ground, then reloaded the file. After doing so, he duplicated the entire stack of logs and the Giant Ancient Core. This is an exploration of creating an offset slot, the basic idea of Inventory Transfer, to transfer the specific items you want on reload into any file. This is HUGE. This started a renaissance in the BOTW community, as this resulted in mass copying of almost any item you wanted, including fairies to become invincible, starting a brand new game with any device you want, rediscover old assets that nintendo never released, spoil any meal using Live Inventory Corruption to be able to eat many times and much more. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Blue Hyrule: On June 25th, user Kinak discovered that using Move Inventory Location to a new file, but not selecting certain items in the game could allow you to malfunction. menu prompts, such as an empty meal slot that allows you to glitch save reminders while the game is still running in real time. By doing so as soon as you defeat Ganon, you can save the game after beating it, with the disaster ganon’s pillars around the castle being transparent blue, Hyrule’s ultimate canonical state actually playable before Tears of the Kingdom.
Weapon Modifier Corruption: The next month, on July 9, Kinak made another groundbreaking discovery in the game using the Warehouse Relocation, and that was the Corruption Fixer weapon swap, the final frontier of gear breakdown in Breath of the Wild. With this breakdown, the player can force the weapon to have special overpower modifiers, enhancing the attack and defense power of the device however you want. Today, IST and WMC have evolved to the point where advanced item manipulation has completely disrupted the game. Highly advanced techniques such as Arrowless Offset, Prompt Entanglement, Chained Material Corruption, Invalid Arrow Slot, Invalid Star Slot, k9c WMC, k+1 WMC, k+60 WMC, and Piercing WMC have increasingly streamlined this process much to damage equipment and items more efficiently. Any player willing to plunge into the complex rabbit hole is rewarded with equipment, ingredients, and diets that players can only dream of.
Gerudo Disarm: Finally we end with Gerudo Disarming. Found on September 25, 2022, user Wacchan has found a way to disarm enemies that would normally never be disarmed, such as Yiga Blademasters and even Lynels. By dropping the aforementioned enemies to the front gate of Gerudo Town, being caught by the guards at the gate will force any nearby NPCs to put away their weapons, including enemies. This changed their behavior in strange ways as Nintendo never designed these enemies to work without their weapons, which makes for some amusing situations.
2022 was a big year for Breath of the Wild, and the discovery of the Inventory Relocation feature and all of its side glitches changed the game forever. Now we just wait and see what the sequel Tears of the Kingdom will bring after 6 long years of release.
