10 Richest Owners NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA According to Forbes
There is rich, and then there is wealth. And then there is “team owner money”.
Forbes has just released the latest ranking of richest sports owner who made it to the 2022 List of 400 and more than 10% of them own teams. It’s an annual list of the chosen people who control the world of sports, as their net worths are numbers so large that they make no sense in real life.
For example, what does 1 billion dollars even look like? Is that how much money Uncle Scrooge has in his vault on DuckTales?
Maybe.
But as you’ll see from the list below, just because an owner is loaded doesn’t mean their team is super successful. Most of the time, sales don’t translate into wins.
However there is a word of warning. For example, Major League Baseball has no salary cap. So if team owners are loaded and really care about winning, they can clean up in free agency and buy the best players and managers on the market. In the NFL, the cap for this season has been set at $208.2 million. And in the NBA, salary cap for this year is $123,655 million, and is expected to grow to $134 million for 2023-24. In that tournament, you can win by being frugal and living in luxury.
Here are the 10 wealthiest owners in sports. And as you’ll see, just because they’re enjoying the games from their plush boxes, doesn’t mean they always leave them after witnessing a win.
