106-year-old World War II veteran made humble request for his ‘dream day’

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – July 14, 2022.

Family and friends packed up at Elk Ridge Village to celebrate Joe Burgess on his 106th birthday.

“His secret to longevity is to keep your mind and body active every day,” says granddaughter Stacey Rudolfi.

The day is made special by dozens of visitors, hundreds of cards and a quartet of barbershops.

But another big day is approaching: July 26, 2022.

“Had to wait until 106 to do that,” he said.

“It” is a day designed by Joe through the Dreamweaver Foundation, which fulfills seniors’ dreams.

Joe wants to take the limousine to Walmart to buy new irons, irons, and shoes, then have lunch at Spezia.

He is not alone. Bob Reisser, 100, who also lives at Elk Ridge Village, joined Joe for the day.

Bob flew a B-17 during World War II. Joe is a sniper.

Connect with each other and with new friends – Joe beams. Jokingly, “I’ll be back next year.”

The simplicity of his desire proves that he has everything he needs, including a perspective on what it means to serve America.

When asked about the biggest moment in his life, Joe said it was when he left the army.

“I did what I could.”
