12 questions after the big ending of Dragon Prince season 4
After two years, the characters of Dragon Prince is once again running through the magical kingdom of Xadia. And again, they split into two factions, albeit with alignment shuffles and new characters introduced above the fold. The dark mage Claudia finally revived her father, Viren, the main antagonist of the first three seasons, and to make his resurrection permanent, she needs to free the mysterious Startouch elf Aaravos. Claudia, Viren and her new boyfriend Terry have done their job.
At the other end of the court, the young King Ezran, his half-brother Callum, the elf assassin Moonshadow Rayla, and Claudia’s brother, the new squire Soren, set out. stop Claudia frees Aaravos. In the first season, these two factions search for the Archdragon of Earth, who holds an important piece of information about the whereabouts of Aaravos. As the subtitle of the section implies, there is a so many of the mystery surrounding this guy.
And we barely scratched their surface, even after their confrontation with the great Earth dragon in the finale. Even without all of the questions we have about Aaravos, there are still plenty of lingering plot points that we’d love to get answered in seasons 5 and 6. Let’s dig around and spin around a few theories. .

So what is the mystery of Aaravos?
Zubeia, the Archdragon of the Sky, tells the young heroes that, centuries ago, Aaravos was imprisoned for essentially manipulating magicians into political conflict. He was discovered to be the puppet master behind a number of murders and assassinations. So the crime is clear, but no one knows. why He did this. Does he just enjoy the chaos? Is there a bigger plan at play here? What we do know is that he is unbelievably old and one of the first creatures to live in Xadia. He calls himself “the last of the Great,” even though we know nothing of what the Great Men are.
Where is the mysterious prison?
All we know is that Aaravos is locked in a prison in a location that not even the dragons and goblins who imprisoned him know about. Chances are the characters will spend the next two seasons racing around Xadia trying to find this prison. But who will get there first? Claudia, Viren and Terry, who wants to completely free Aaravos? Or Callum, Rayla, Soren and Ezran who want to stop them? Considering Team Claudia has a map to the prison, they’re currently in the lead.
Claudia is eternally evil?
This season begins with Claudia finally resurrecting her deceased father, Viren – and then embarks on a quest to free Aaravos so she can complete the resurrection. Considering she seems pretty bad at her quest, even after learning that Aaravos isn’t good news, it’s likely she’ll remain a villain for at least the majority of the next few seasons. . There’s a chance she can change hearts. Surely the fact that she listened to her boyfriend Terry when he called her for being unnecessarily cruel to Rayla shows that there is still some good in her.
Why can Callum use primitive magic?

As of the show’s fourth season, Callum remains the only one who can use primitive magic. (Quick refresh: Primordial magic comes from one of the six elements, and usually only elves can use it; humans use dark magic, which involves draining life force.) We still don’t know exactly why he can use it while others can’t – he has an elf father? Others might use it but they haven’t tried it yet?
Will we ever see Runaan again?
Maybe! We have known for a long time that Rayla’s guardian, Runaan’s parents, does not actually dead but imprisoned in a coin. As it turned out, her parents were also trapped in similar coin prisons. At the end of this season, Claudia taunted Rayla with coins and while she initially kept them, she ended up throwing them to Rayla. Now Rayla has the souls of her guardians and parents (????) in a portable form! She could unleash them over the next few seasons.
What did Rayla do during those two years?

After leaving Katolis and her BF Callum two years ago, Rayla hunted down Viren and Claudia. Despite being a master assassin, she was completely unsuccessful. We don’t know exactly what she did during that time except that (1) she was too busy to write letters and (2) she adopted a cute monkey creature. Hopefully the next few seasons will delve into some of Rayla’s adventures in the meantime.
Will Rayla and Callum get back together?
Does it count as breaking up if they never officially broke up? It’s clear that there is still some tension between these two, even if they have yet to sit down and have a proper conversation about it all. However, they have chemistry and history, so it’s only a matter of time before they repair their relationship. We’re pretty sure Rayllum will share a kiss or two by the time season six comes out.
What the hell is Sir Sparklepuff?

Oh yes. So the little worm that Aaravos used to whisper cryptic messages to Viren in the first three seasons transformed itself into a giant cocoon… and then from that chrysalis came a bug-breed creature. strange human figure. Claudia, naturally, named it Sir Sparklepuff. We don’t know what the hell it is, but it looks like it’s connected to Aaravos in some way, although he can no longer use it to talk directly to Viren and Claudia. Instead, Sir Sparklepuff communicated through rudimentary pantomime.
Is Viren possessed by a ghost?
The final photo of this season is Viren with her glowing purple eyes fading to black, with lines of shadow slowly stretching across her face. When Aaravos possessed Callum earlier in the season, Callum also had similar black eyes. It should be noted though, this is also how he looks when he performs dark magic. Has Aaravos found a way to mess with Viren more directly, or has Viren simply regained his fascination with dark magic? The fact that it’s the last thing we see this season suggests that it could be more important…
To be Callum own?
While Aaravos appears to have released Callum after performing a villainous monologue, Callum is still deeply traumatized by the experience. He even asks Rayla to kill him if Aaravos regains control. Aaravos taunts Callum, saying that Callum is destined to play right in his hand. Looks like this won’t be the last time we see Callum in possession.
Will Janai choose her people or Amaya?
Image: Wonderstorm, Bardel Entertainment / Netflix
Throughout the seasons, Sunfire’s elf queen Janai struggles between being the leader for her people and just wanting to marry humanity’s fearsome warrior Amaya. You may remember that Janai only ascended the throne after her sister’s death, and she didn’t even want to be queen. While Janai wanted to lead her people into a new era, her brother and several other political leaders felt that she was abandoning tradition. As Janai said when she confided in Amaya, she knew she couldn’t “have her cake and eat it.” Amaya replied, “Only two cakes!”
While Janai successfully thwarts her brother’s attempt to stage a coup, the future of the Sunfire elves – and her own relationship – is still up in the air.
HAVE Flies IN THE BIRD?!?!?!?!?!?
One of the most popular theories after the first season of Dragon Prince it was the spirit of King Harrow that was trapped in his pet bird. We haven’t seen the bird in quite some time (not even in the final credits illustration), and considering that every time Harrow is mentioned, no character even acknowledges the possibility he might be alive… Harrow might be dead. Sorry!
