13 best seniors in the game

Think of a game where you control a character (so no Tetris or whatever) – go ahead, any game! Now, chances are, whatever game you have chosen, its protagonist is young or at most middle-aged. You have names like Link, Mario, Samus, Cloud, Joker, Neku, Scott Pilgrim… We could go on, but you have the idea.

It’s a pity that senior characters (which we’ll loosely define here as someone around retirement age or older) aren’t featured more in the game; After all, Nintendo’s remarkable ability to make games suitable for all ages means that people who like Audie (AKA ‘Animal hybrid grandma’) enjoy the game in the 90s and beyond.

So with that in mind, we thought we’d compile some of our favorite elderly characters in the game; we have everything here, from cute grandmas to gothic vampires, so bond yourself with everyone – old or different – and be sure to let us know your favorite OAP your own when playing games; We can just add your suggestions in!

Grandma – The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Link’s Grandma is an absolute sweetheart, isn’t he? The guardian of both Link and his sister is Aryll in Wind Wakeryou could argue she’s not the most caring person on Outset Island, but that doesn’t diminish her love for her two grandchildren.

It’s especially heartbreaking when you return to the island later in the game and discover the poor woman is unlikely to be depressed, only cured by Fairy’s healing properties. Once she’s back up and running, Grandma will do what any beloved grandparent does when Link returns to her house: make sure he’s well fed with some delicious Elixir Soup. We love you, grandma!

Cranky Kong – DK

Carrying the often abused stereotype of elderly people being constantly irritable, Cranky Kong is exactly that – irritable. He often pays attention to the glory days of the 8-bit era, and often talks to Donkey Kong (albeit in a rather endearing way). However, his many appearances throughout Donkey Kong franchise just feels the rightand we personally wouldn’t want him any other way.

Just lighten up a littlehuh CK?

Toadsworth – Super Mario Sunshine

Locked up and then forced to clean up Delfino Island for a crime he didn’t commit, Mario is somewhat in a predicament at the start. Super Mario Sunshine. So it’s good that the lovely elderly manager Toadsworth is there not just offering advice (okay, admittedly not) good advice) but simply exudes a completely calming aura.

It’s no surprise that the character has been stuck for many years since, but after his absence due to Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario OdysseyWe sincerely hope to see him back to normal soon.

Professor E. Gadd – Luigi .’s Mansion

Professor E. Gadd is hilarious, let’s be honest. His nimble way of talking has made him one of the most beloved of all Nintendo characters since his debut in GameCube’s. Luigi’s Mansion. A true genius, his inventions are both strange and inspired in design, and we can always count on him when a few ghosts and vampires roam.

Impa – Breath of the Wild

The wise elder of Kakariko Village is a quintessential mentor figure. While she is present in the majority of Zelda titles, her appearance in Breath of the Wild perhaps the most important, if only for the excellent storyline provided in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

And of course, don’t forget that she’s wearing an amazing, totally pink hat pendulum hanging around the edge! If that doesn’t qualify her for this list, then we don’t know what will.

Tortimer – Animal Crossing

Tortimer is just living the dream, isn’t he? Once the mayor of the town of Animal Crossing, he now enjoys spending his time going on lovely vacations or simply taking a nap. Indeed a guy. Once said to be an adept gardener, he even has an island named after him New leaves!

Just don’t suggest that his shell could be fake… Heh heh horf!

All of them – Later Dates

Why love only one good character when you can have a whole bunch of them? The cast of Later Dates is a lovely selection of seniors residing in Ye OLDE Retirement Community, and they are a random bunch too!

Everyone at Ye OLDE is adventurous, damn old age. It’s a great reminder that age is just a number and that you will always be a young, mentally sharp person – if you choose.

Doctor of Light – Mega Man

Maker Mega Man, you could argue that Dr. Light is responsible for bringing such beautiful games to the world… Actually no, it’s Akira Kitamura. Dr. Light is Mega Man’s really father and creator, and spends his time creating other inventions to help Mega Man defeat the evil Dr. Wily and his Robot Masters.

Without him, then… where would we be?

Dr. Wily – Mega Man

Dr. Wily is yang to Dr. Light’s yin. Saruman with his Gandalf. The Man in Black to The Gunslinger. You simply cannot have one without the other. Dr. Wily cannot be considered “good” as such; After all, he’s a proper spinner.

But without Wily, what the hell would Mega Man spend his time doing? Cut fruit with his Metal Blade? It’s boring.

Mayor Lewis – Stardew Valley

Mayor Lewis is like Tortimer of Stardew Valley, but without the big cover and deep love for naps. He’s the first person you meet when you get to the new ranch, and he’s a cool guy – just look at that mustache! Sparkling.

He seems to have never been married or had any kind of family due to his deep commitment to his duties as mayor, and we think that’s incredibly noble. Take off your hat, sir.

Dracula – Castlevania

Wait, Dracula isn’t old, is he? Yes, that’s right. Many centuries old, no less!

He’s not exactly an OAP in the strictest sense; After all, the concept of being a vampire is about achieving eternal youth, but we think his existence in the plains for such a long time has allowed him to be on the list. this. Think of the life experience he has gained in his years!

Rab – Dragon Quest XI

Okay, now we know Mayor Lewis has a pretty mustache, but gosh, look at this! Hefty!

Rab is totally a gentle guy but a bit naughty and has a certain eye for women, but he’s also the right guy to be by your side when you’re on an adventure. Although his age sometimes makes him better, he is always willing to go the extra mile for his allies.

Geralt – The Witcher

Geralt - The Witcher

Wait, this is silly; Geralt is not old! Ah, again… it’s him. He is said to be around 90-100 in the events of The Witcher III – definitely old enough to claim the free bus pass. Apparently the Witchers don’t age like normal people, so he still has the ‘God Bod’ of a young athlete, even if his general demeanor resembles that of a stereotypical pensioner; a bit grumpy and spends his free time playing cards.

However, we love Geralt, and we’re not entirely afraid of Botchlings with him around.

So you have it! We’d love to expand this feature in the future, so if you have any suggestions for characters we might have overlooked, please let us know in the comments!
