READING, Pa. (CBS) – A 13-year-old girl who was abducted from her home in Reading early Wednesday morning has been found safe in Brooklyn. Police said the teenage girl will soon be reunited with her family.
Police say the girl was abducted by a man from her home at 2 a.m., on the 500 block of South Court in Glenside Homes.
The man was arrested in Brooklyn. Police identified him as Duane Taylor.
Sheriff read Richard Tornielli said investigators believe the man had a connection with the girl.
“We don’t believe this is a random kidnapping,” Tornielli said. “We believe this individual has been abducted by someone she may or may have known her. The vicinity is safe and poses no danger to the public.”
The teenage girl’s abduction led to an Amber Alert being issued just before 3pm on Wednesday.
She was last seen on Schuylkill Avenue and was placed in a silver Chevy Traverse with Pennsylvania license plates.
State Police canceled the Amber Alert at 6:48 p.m. Wednesday after the girl was found in New York City.
The NYPD and FBI assisted in the arrest of the suspect.
“Let this be a lesson to anyone trying to harm one of our young children that we will do whatever we can to make sure they are caught immediately,” said Thi. Reading chief Eddie Moran said, “and we have zero tolerance for that. “
Taylor is currently in custody in New York and faces state charges.
