19 best scented candles to help relax your mind

My ideal night includes a hot tub, a cup of tea, a relaxation playlist, and one of the best scented candles burning next to me. This bathing ritual is my tried-and-true method for transitioning from “busy day mode” to “cold night mode,” and my days wouldn’t be the same without it. I recently returned from vacation and while I tried to imitate this routine in hotels, something was off. I couldn’t understand why things weren’t peaceful until I got home and lit the candle next to my bath. As it turns out, the aromatherapy aspect of my relaxation routine plays a huge role in my relaxation.

With this discovery, I set out to learn more about this phenomenon and search for the best scented candles for all my needs. I reached out to Kiana Shelton, LCSW with Mindpath Health to learn about the benefits of aromatherapy, the optimal scents for different results, and of course, her recommendations for the best scented candles . Read on to know how scented candles can affect the mind. Get ready to fill your cart.

What are the benefits of aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy activates one of our five senses, the sense of smell. By activating the limbic system, which is the part of the brain that stores many of our memories and emotions, aromatherapy can be a useful way to tap into different emotions.

What should we look for in scented candles?

When choosing a scented candle, there is no one-size-fits-all scented candle. This is your chance to tailor it to whatever need or desired outcome you may have. It is important that you read the label of the candle, as many candles these days are made with a combination of carcinogenic ingredients hidden in addition to the natural ingredients, so it can be very complicated. It’s best to look for candles made from coconut, soy, or beeswax.

Which scents are optimal for aromatherapy? What is the goal of each scent?

Improved relaxation: Chamomile, lavender, rose, vetiver and ylang ylang

Energy Revival: Citrus, sage, ginger, lemon, orange, mint and sandalwood

Reduce stress: Bergamot, Lavender, Rose and Eucalyptus

What is your personal favorite scented candle?

HOAM Candle Co. is my address to buy candles. My number one candle recommendation is called “My Hour”. This candle features notes of spiced citrus and vanilla tonka combined with cocoa butter, sandalwood and cedar. Also, I believe there’s power in names, and I love how the candle urges you to take some time for yourself too. We can all benefit from a little “me time” aromatherapy.
