1948-2022: Thierry Mugler, French fashion designer, dies

TOKYO – French fashion designer Manfred Thierry Mugler, whose impressive designs have been worn by celebrities such as Madonna, Lady Gaga and Cardi B, has passed away. He was 73 years old.

His official Instagram account passed away on Sunday. “May his soul rest in peace,” it wrote in an all-black post with no image. It did not give a cause of death.

Mugler, who launched his brand in 1973, is known for his architectural style, defined by his broad shoulders and small waist. His use of futuristic fabric like plastic in his sculptural outfits has become a trademark.

He has defined haute couture for decades, dressing Diana Ross and Beyonce at gala dinners, on the red carpet and the runway.

His designs are unafraid of being outlandish, sometimes resembling robotic suits with protruding cones. Mugler also has a popular fragrance line, which he started in the 1990s.
