2 dogs, hedgehog rescued from fire on Lobelia Avenue
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Firefighters said they responded to a house fire on Lobelia Avenue Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 2.
Authorities say that three people inside the home were able to escape the blaze before staff arrived on the scene.
Firefighters rescued two dogs and a hedgehog from inside the house but were unable to rescue a pet snake still inside. It was later found dead.
Investigators said the fire was caused by a mechanical failure in a car parked in the garage. The fire engulfed the vehicle and spread to the roof when crews arrived on the scene.
It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to bring the fire under control.
Officials said one of the residents suffered burns to his arm after re-entering the home while trying to save the pets.
Authorities said the Red Cross had been called to assist the home’s residents.
