2022 Toyota Corolla Cross Top Safety Pick by IIHS + nod
While 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross a little ho-hum compared to its peers when it comes to everyday driving, Highway Safety Insurance Institute has identified its redeeming virtue: it is surprisingly secure. The organization announced Tuesday that Toyota’s new baby CUV earn ratings + coveted Top Safe Pick.
This rating means Corolla Cross passed all major safety group crash prevention and mitigation tests and gave no rating to the standard headlights rated less than “Acceptable”. The Corolla Cross was rated highly only because its performance in the subcategories did not affect the overall test results. For example, it won “Acceptable” for its structural/safety cage durability in the passenger-side minor overlap test; it still received an overall “Good” rating in the test thanks to the performance of the other safety components.
Also earned the best nod for 2022 is Toyota’s RAV4 Prime. Standard RAV4 The model earned the overall Top Safety Choice (no +) title when fitted with LED projector headlights offered on every trim but the bare LE. Standard reflectors provide insufficient light in IIHS‘checks for curve visibility and is rated “Outside” only.
