2023 BMW Alpina XB7 revealed, confirmed to Australia

Alpina has revealed its loss on the updated BMW X7 large SUVcalled XB7.

It is set to begin production in December 2022 and will arrive Down Under in early 2023, as confirmed by BMW spokesman Alpina Australia.

Offering more performance than the new trim level BMW X7 M60i, the Alpina XB7 is equipped 4.4 liters of twin-turbo V8 . petrol with light hybrid technology production 457kW power and 800Nm torque (up 67kW and 50Nm on said M60i).

This twin-turbo V8 petrol engine is mated to a torque converter eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, with drive sent to all four wheels.

BMW Alpina quotes a 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.2 seconds for the high-performance XB7, with a top speed of 290km/ H.

According to the WLTP association cycle, the XB7 is updated using a 12.0L / 100km when equipped with standard 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Just like the updated X7, the XB7 gets a new split headlight design and an illuminated kidney grille. It also has Alpina’s front apron and rear bumper to remind everyone that this is no ordinary X7.

There’s also a new cross-bank exhaust for the XB7 that allows it to deliver a louder V8 sound.

While standard specs have not been confirmed, the XB7 has now received the BMW Parking Assistant Professional as standard. This feature allows the XB7 to automatically park and control acceleration, braking, steering and shifting between forward and reverse gears.

It will also feature blue illuminated gear selectors, a “hand-finished steering wheel” and vintage-style Alpina production badges.

In front of the driver, the XB7 has been fitted with the latest BMW OS8.0 infotainment system on a large curved dashboard with blue and green accents. This curved dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central display.

Like every Alpina model, the updated XB7 is aimed at comfort and features a two-axle air suspension. It also has Alpina-specific dampers and active roll stabilization that aim to balance driving dynamics and ride comfort.

Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but for context, the first XB7 is priced at $264,900 before on-road costs. This figure is $80,000 more expensive than the X7 M50i.

In the world of high-performance three-row SUVs, there’s little competition.

Audi’s SQ7 now uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 373kW and 770Nm, lower than the XB7, but able to accelerate from 0-100km/h faster in 4.1 seconds.

There are also Mercedes-AMG GLS63 equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 450kW and 800Nm.

Generally speaking, BMW recently announced that it has secured the rights to the Alpina brandwhich it believes will secure the tuning company’s long-term future as part of the BMW Group.

Although Alpina is built on the foundation laid by BMW, the company does more than just tune its cars. BMW Alpina vehicles have their own VIN and Alpina is recognized as a German manufacturer.

BMW hasn’t given specific details on what the Alpina will look like after 2025 when it discontinues the current vehicle program.

The Alpina group will continue to develop, manufacture and sell the BMW Alpina vehicle until the end of 2025, with final assembly continuing to take place at the company’s workshops in Buchloe.
