The Ford F-150 Lightning has received a price increase for the 2023 model year — in this case, only for base, fleet-oriented Lightning Pro models.
The base Lightning Pro currently has a base price of $51,974, along with a $1,795 destination fee. Ford initially priced the F-150 Lightning Pro at $39,974 — or $41,669 with a $1,695 destination fee — for the 2022 model year.
The impulse represents a price increase of nearly 30%.
2023 Ford F-150 Lightning
This comes after the retail version of Lightning increased the price for its second model year. Ford in August announced $7,000 price increase for this model, with price hikes up to $8,500 in certain configurations.
Ford said, as part of the statement providing green car report, that the price increase is related to “ongoing supply chain constraints, rising raw material costs and other market factors.”
Gasoline vehicles that use some of the same materials have not experienced the same price hike, suggesting it has a lot to do with the battery pack and the corresponding supply chain.
Ford isn’t the only one to raise the price of its electric vehicles. Some of the biggest recent price spikes include electric vehicle specialists like Tesla, Lucid, and Rivian. Tesla has raised the price several times in the past year, while Lucid and Rivian announced a price increase even while keeping the original price unchanged for those who pre-ordered.
The price increase appears to have played a major role in setting the stage for 2024 and in licensing resellers to charge more for any base Lightning Pro that ends up on the lot. Reply green car report, Ford confirms that the 2023 F-150 Lightning Pro has been sold out to retail customers; while those with existing retail orders awaiting delivery, or existing commercial and government customers with scheduled orders, will not be affected by this adjustment, those who have not yet reached the paragraph order will need to pay the premium.
Ford has announced that it will end mark EV and bargain with new agency deals starting January 2024, so this could provide a runway for that.
2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro SSV
We found the F-150 Lightning to be one of the best years new vehicle. It revolutionized the pickup truck without sacrificing performance, and made electrification America’s most popular vehicle.
One police version of Lightning Pro, called SSV, was announced in July. It is unclear whether the same price increase that applies to the civilian Lightning Pro will also be applied to the police version. But with the increase in prices, it is likely that more fleets and cities will rethink their cost of ownership calculations.
