2023 Toyota Crown brand name revealed, not for Australia

Locomotive Toyota Crown underwent a complete transformation in 2023, becoming a range comprising four distinct body types.

There’s a signature Crown sedan, aimed at people with their own chauffeur. But there are three more members of the family called – in Toyota’s own words – Crown (Crossover Style), Crown (Sporty Style) and Crown (Property Style).

Alas, none of the above will now come to Australia, where Toyota already sells a wide range of products.

“There are no plans,” the company’s local division told us today, despite the fact that the new series will be rolled out in 40 claimed countries and regions – including… back to the United States.

Although it hasn’t been sold in Australia since 1988, the Crown badge is extremely important to Toyota. Only LandCruiser its classic fit.

It made its debut in 1955, spanned 16 generations, and was the company’s first mass-produced touring car created with its own domestic technology.

“However, times have changed… and Crown has become unable to fully meet the diverse needs of its customers, and its presence as a leading vehicle has become less important. more,” declares Toyota, hence its new tactic.

“When designing the new Crown, the development team thoroughly researched what ‘Crown’ is, and as a result… they created four brand new models.”

The model debuted for the family and the main focus here is the Crown crossover, which is truly a luxury sedan with a fastback design language and raised hips.

The Crown crossover is based on the TNGA-K platform, familiar from RAV4 and camrymaking it front-wheel drive – unlike the traditional rear-wheel drive of the Crowns of yore.

Two hybrid options will be available with electric motor-driven AWD: a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated system or a more powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged petrol-electric system.

Toyota has not yet detailed information on the rollout schedule for the remaining three models.

That sedan looks a lot like the one Mirai hydrogen FCEV, the premium sedan looks ideal for Europe, while the sporty Crown is clearly a sleek SUV that can be sold anywhere.

“Toyota Australia is continuously researching the market to find new opportunities to offer exciting new products to Australian customers. However, at this stage we have no plans to introduce the Crown model or any of its sub-variants to the Australian market,” the company said.
