Upcoming BMW i5 Electric sedans have been tracked again before the reveal is expected in 2023.
Our spy photographers captured two i5 prototypes at the Nürburgring and both are said to be high-performance M60 variants.
Both i5 prototypes have the same subtle rear spoiler and a black M badging, mounted on the grille as a previous spy example there is paper stuck to the windshield that says ‘i5 M60’.
No camouflage has been concealed since the last prototypes of the i5 M60 were tracked, although the shape and key details are easily recognizable through the camouflage.
It’s not yet clear what kind of electric powertrain setup the high-performance i5 M60 will get, but it could be the same. iX M60.
The BMW iX M60 has a dual all-wheel drive setup that produces 455kW of power and 1100Nm of torque. It is said to be able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds.
All-electric BMW i5 expected to be revealed alongside new version 5 Lines in 2023, it is expected to offer combustion and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.
Former spy photos has revealed the cabin of the next 5er will feature a dual-screen setup, which is fast becoming standard in BMW models, with the latest iDrive 8 operating system.
It is expected to borrow the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the recently revealed car XM The SUV, consists of a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with 360kW/650Nm, a 145kW/280Nm electric motor and a 25.7kWh battery pack. The total system power is 480kW and 800Nm.
The current generation BMW 5 Series has been on sale since 2016 and will be upgraded in 2020.
Its arch-rival, Mercedes-Benz E-Classwill also be revealed in a redesigned form in 2023.
