3 members of the ‘Milwaukee Dancing Grannies’ group were killed in the Waukesha parade tragedy
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – At least five people were killed and dozens more injured after an SUV crashed through the Waukesha Holiday Parade on Sunday, November 21. Among the victims were three members. of the group Milwaukee Dancing Grannies.
The crowd was participating in the parade when a red SUV drove past the parade, hitting dozens of people.

Authorities identified the three victims as 79-year-old Virginia Sorenson, 71-year-old Lee Owens and 52-year-old Tamara Durand – all members of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies.
Sorensen is the choreographer of the group, Owens leads the front and Durand is the newest member.
“Our hearts are filled with sadness because they have been, are and will continue to be a great inspiration to many people,” said Pam King. She is the executive director of the Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce. The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies are part of the annual Grafton Parade.
Milwaukee Dancing Grannies released a statement:
“Milwaukee Dancing Grannies was devastated by this terrible tragedy with loss of life and injuries during the Waukesha Christmas Parade.
Our group did what they loved, performing in front of crowds in a parade that brought smiles to the faces of all ages, filling them with joy and happiness. While performing, the ladies enjoyed hearing the cheers and applause of the crowd that was sure to bring smiles to their faces and warm their hearts.
Those who died were extremely passionate Grannies. Their eyes sparkled ….. the joy of being Grannie. They are the glue…. that has kept us together.
Our hearts are heavy at this most difficult time, as more information and updates become available it will be posted. Please keep them family, their friends, the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies and all those living forever changed in your thoughts and prayers. “
The SUV involved has been located and a person with an interest is in custody.
Officials have warned the number of victims could change as they gather more information.
