3-year-old boy collapses to death from 29th floor of NYC apartment building

A three-year-old boy fell to his death from an apartment building in Harlem on Saturday morning after neighbors and witnesses said they heard adults arguing from the 29th floor, as his devastated mother the boy shouted “my baby, my baby, it’s up there,” from the street below.

The child, who has not been named Wednesday, fell onto fifth-floor scaffolding from a 29th-floor balcony of an apartment in the residential Taino Towers residential area on Third Avenue between 122 and 123 Streets, according to reports. New York Post.

A neighbor told the store they heard a loud “boom” sound as the toddler hit the ground, at first they mistook the noise for construction work.

“It sounded like something really heavy. It’s like under construction,” said Tangerine Castro, who lives on the 23rd floor, about the thunderous noise. “

Neighbor Alexander Townsend told The Post the child’s mother was screaming “my baby, my baby, is he up there?!” after the boy’s tragic fall.

“She was sitting on the ground in her socks,” Townsend said of the boy’s mother. “She yelled, ‘My baby, my baby, it’s up there.”

Nidia Cordero, 58, a foster mother who lives on the 34th floor of the building told the Post her children heard a “big fight” between the adults on the 29th floor minutes before the new baby know how to walk and fall.

“When you look out on the terrace, you see the body of the baby. He’s wearing diapers and a t-shirt,’ Cordero said. “

Then you hear screams,” she added. “I think the mother was screaming and I looked and the baby was in the scaffolding.”

The boy was taken to nearby Harlem Hospital, where he was eventually pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m., according to the NYPD. Preliminary reports say the child’s fall was accidental.

History of domestic violence in boy’s home, neighbors say

The neighbor said she had seen the child earlier in the building’s elevator with his father, telling The Post that the boy often looked “closed in” while adding that she was aware of the violence issues. family in the family.
