30 years on, fan-made ‘Final Battle’ is set to rekindle the war on 16-bit consoles

The last battle is one of the perfect side-scrolling beat ’em up games, without a doubt. Released in video games in 1989, the game was ported to the SNES system the following year, with many things missing such as Level 4, full characters, and no two-player mode. While it’s a flawed conversation, the fact that Nintendo has one of the hottest arcade titles as a home console exclusive was a real coup at the time.

Of course, that’s not the only port the game has, but for Genesis/Mega Drive owners, Street inspiration had to be replaced, and many Sega fans missed Final Fight entirely unless they got the Mega/Sega CD, which got its own port a short time later with much missing from the SNES version.

However, time can be a great healer, and if you’ve been waiting for a brand new release of your favorite beat for your classic Sega console, then The last war For you.

This upcoming Homebrew version of Final Fight has been the passionate project of retro developer Mauro Xavier for some time and together with Edmo Caldas, on the music, and Master Linkuei, who is working on rippings, tricks and tech support, they are considering bringing a full version of the game to Genesis. Xavier posted the first video of the project to YouTube (above) and it looks absolutely amazing.

From the Genesis’ terrible chip tunes to the sprite work, this looks like something that popped up on consoles 30 years ago. Fans are eager to see this release, with some just asking if the homebrew version can accommodate more changes than the SNES port can manage. And while Xavier can’t promise anything, he says the team is trying.

@ChaddyBones also shared mock models for the box art, using the iconic red regulation of the Genesis box, and another using Capcom’s template for the first Genesis release, Street Fighter II’: Special Champion Edition.

The port is currently still being worked on, with Xavier sharing in an update last week that the sound effects, controls, and intro (as we’ve seen!) are all done, while the location of the port is complete. items and enemies still need a bit of work. to get to scratch.

However, we extremely glad to see everything come together into what is hoped to be the final version of Final Fight – and one (at least unofficially) that could kickstart debates on the playing field about which 16-bit console is the best.
