4 lakh jobs created in Q3 of 2021; at 39%, manufacturing largest employer | India News


NEW DELHI: Formal sector employment in India increased by 40,000 in the quarter ended December 2021, with the manufacturing sector emerging as the largest employer, according to Tuesday data Quarterly employment survey report released by the labor department on Thursday.
Third Quarterly Employment Survey (QES), which collects employment data from facilities with 10 or more workers in the manufacturing, construction, commerce, transportation, education, healthcare, inns and restaurants, IT/BPO sectors and financial services, which account for about 85% of total employment in entities with 10 or more workers.
In these sectors, employment rose to 3.14 crore, above the employment estimate of 3.1 crore recorded in the second QES July-September 2021 and 3.08 crore following the first round of QES in October-December 2020.
“Pleased to announce the report for Round 3 (October to December 2021) of the Quarterly Employment Survey showing an upward trend in employment in the organized sector, employing 10 or more workers. , out of 9 selected sectors”, Minister of Labor and Deployment Bhupender Yadav said in a tweet.
According to the report, the manufacturing sector accounts for about 39% of the estimated total employment, followed by the education sector with 22%.
Next is the IT/BPO sector with 11% of employees, healthcare with 10.4%, commerce with 5.3% and transportation with 4.2% of employees. Financial services accounted for 2.8% of the jobs pie, accommodation and restaurants accounted for 2.6%, and construction, the lowest contributor, with 2% of the workforce.
