49ers’ Williams reacts to retirement speculation
San Francisco 49ers attacker Trent Williams has cleared up any speculation surrounding his future.
Williams said at Saturday’s Pro Bowl practice that he fully intends to return for the 2023 season, and also plans to review his contract with the team.
“Yeah, sure,” Williams said when asked if he’d come back, via Grant Gordon of NFL.com. “Next year, next year. I have a contract until the age of 39 [years old].”
The All-Pro attack guide sparked speculation when he seems to suggest retirement after the team’s NFC Championship loss last Sunday.
A week later, Williams joked that he “didn’t understand the question” and made it clear he wasn’t thinking about quitting anytime soon.
Williams signed a six-year contract extension with the 49ers in March 2021. If he is serious about running out of his contract, that means he will be tied to the 49ers for the rest of the season. 2026.
