5 new COVID-19 cases reported in Guelph, 39 active cases

Guelph’s public health unit reported five new COVID-19 cases in the city on Thursday, as the total number of cases rose to 5,205.

The latest data shows Guelph has 39 active cases, with six new recoveries also reported. The total number of resolved cases stands at 5,121, while the city’s figure of 45 deaths remains unchanged.

Two new cases have also been reported in Wellington County, bringing the total to 2,210 cases. Active cases are 26, with four confirmed recoveries. The death toll in the county remains at 38.

Across Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph, only one case is being treated in hospital, but is in the intensive care unit.

There are 16 confirmed cases among 10 public and Catholic schools in Guelph and Wellington Counties. Outbreaks of COVID-19 have been announced at King George Public Schools and St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School.

The University of Guelph says there is one case of COVID-19 connected to the campus.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has updated its online immunization reporting portal to reflect that children between the ages of five and 11 are now considered eligible for the shot.

As a result, 81.1% of eligible residents in the area were deemed fully vaccinated, while 84.4% had received a single dose of the vaccine.

In Guelph, 83% of eligible residents are fully immunized and 86.4% partially immunized. In Wellington County, 80.2% were fully immunized and 83.2% received a single dose.

So far this week, 3,900 vaccines have been used in the region, including about 2,100 first doses, about 350 second and 1,450 third doses.

As of Thursday, 40.2% of eligible students on the Upper Grand District School Board were fully immunized, while 39.9% had received two doses on the Wellington Catholic School Board.
