Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said Wednesday officers responded to 911 calls about a fight outside the school.
While the officers were on their way to school, the call was upgraded to a shooting.
When police arrived on the scene, Norman said they could not find any victims.
The sheriff said officers became aware of it when a fight broke out between two girls outside the school during a girls’ high school basketball game.
As a “large group” gathered to watch the fighting, Norman said one man fired multiple shots.
Five victims were injured.
Around 7:45 p.m., Norman said three teenage girls arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Around 10 p.m., another young woman and a woman went to another hospital with gunshot wounds.
The victims ranged in age from 15 to 20 years old.
They are all expected to survive, police said.
Norman said all five people were shot in the scuffle outside the school.
Police have not released their names.
Their involvement in the brawl and shooting is still under investigation.
Police do not believe anyone inside the school was injured in the shooting.
Norman said investigators believe the altercation stemmed from an argument on Facebook.
Police say they know who is looking, but have not confirmed a relationship with the victims.
