9 Alberta post-secondary institutions to require proof of COVID-19 vaccine to attend campus

Nine post-secondary institutions in Alberta are strengthening their COVID-19 protocol by requiring everyone enrolled on campus to be fully immunized against the disease.

In a joint statement Monday morning, the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge, MacEwan University, Medicine Hat College, Mount Royal University, NAIT, SAIT and NorQuest College announced they would be introducing new assignments. vaccination service.

“Vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect the community from the harmful effects of COVID-19,” reads the joint news release. “At Alberta post-secondary institutions, vaccinations have proven to be an important part of our fall safety plan.

The following protocols will be implemented at all nine schools:

  • Campus community members and visitors will be required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 to attend schools.
  • Campus community members and visitors will be required to provide proof of immunizations
  • Rapid testing will no longer be accepted as an alternative to immunization, with the exception of campus community members who are unable to vaccinate on medical or other protected grounds outlined in the Act. The schools say they are working together and taking a coordinated approach “to ensure the safety of our campus for students, faculty, staff and visitors”.
