But, they had to bring it back next year because there was only one. “It’s the greatest joy that I get that for about an hour and a half or two, people put down their phones, turn off the Internet and enjoy each other as company, family, friends and football, ” said the organizer.

The backyard soccer game is in its 20th year, bringing the neighborhood together every Thanksgiving.
It was started after the September 11 attacks in New York as a way to bring people together.
The organizers printed leaflets and pasted them at the door. The first game had about 35 people, now it’s dozens.
“It’s part of the community now,” said one organizer.
The game begins with an introduction to the family, followed by the national anthem.
In the rain and snow, families will gather for the annual game.
“This is our Superbowl,” one neighbor commented.

Then at the end of the game, the MVP trophy is awarded. However, they had to bring it back next year because there was only one.
