A beloved soccer player and a college scholarship senior among Michigan school shooting victims
The students killed were Tate Myre, 16 years old; Hana St. Juliana, 14, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, and Justin Shilling, 17, authorities said. Shilling died Wednesday morning, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s office.
It was clear that Tate Myre was dedicated to his sport. He is a star footballer who has won a spot on the varsity team since he was a freshman at Oxford High School, the team said in a tweet.
Not only talented on the field, he also excelled academically and was an honor student.
“It is with great sadness that one of the victims of the tragic events at OHS today was ourselves, Tate Myre,” the group tweeted Tuesday night. “Tate was a wonderful guy with a bright future and was loved by everyone. You will miss him, Tate.”
Myre’s own Twitter account is filled with gameplay highlights and scripted videos showing off his abilities. One of his last tweets, on November 28, thanked the University of Toledo team for having him at one of their games.
The sheriff said a co-pilot loaded Myre into their car after the shooting, but he died on the way to the hospital.
An online petition has surfaced calling for the school’s football stadium to be renamed after Myre.
“Tate was not only a hero to his students at Oxford High School, but a legend. His act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations. study,” the petition said.
As of Wednesday morning, it had collected more than 48,000 signatures.
Madisyn Baldwin, 17 years old
“This beautiful, intelligent, sweet loving girl was tragically taken from all of us today, leaving a huge hole in our hearts…”, Graves Mosqueda wrote on Facebook. “This horrible day could never have been imagined or planned for.”
“My daughter and son-in-law will never ask for anything during this time, however I do want them to be able to be together, their other children and their families during this time without having to worries about work, bills and arrangements,” she wrote on the campaign’s website.
Baldwin is an artist who loves to draw, read and write, her family told WDIV. She is the eldest of three siblings, with a younger half-brother and two sisters whom she cherishes, they said.
Hana St. Juliana, 14 years old
“We will never forget your kind heart, silly personality and passion for the game,” the team wrote on Twitter. “Since 6th grade camping, you’ve stayed dedicated to Oxford Basketball, immersing yourself in the game.”
The team announced on Tuesday night it will be her debut with the team.
“This season we play for you Hana,” the team wrote.
Justin Shilling, 17 years old
Justin Shilling, who passed away Wednesday morning, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, was described by his employer as a bowling team co-captain, a devoted friend and more.
Anita’s kitchen, where Shilling works, shared a statement on social media about him.
“We have just learned of the passing of one of the bright, young Lake Orion employees, Justin Shilling, in connection with the tragic events that took place at Oxford High School yesterday,” workplace written by him. “Justin is an exemplary employee, a devoted friend and colleague, co-captain of his bowling team, and simply a joy to be around. We always think of family and friends. his at this difficult time.”
The family-owned business has three locations in Michigan and they employ many Oxford High School students.
“Since we opened in Lake Orion in December 2019, the majority of our staff consists of Oxford High School students,” the business wrote. “We’re often surprised how lucky we are to have such amazing kids on our Lake Orion team. Simply put – we wouldn’t be a restaurant without them. . tragedy.”
Six other students and one teacher were shot
Authorities said seven other people – six students and a teacher – were shot.
Among the injured was a 14-year-old girl who was on a ventilator after surgery, Bouchard said Tuesday night. A 14-year-old boy also suffered a gunshot wound to the jaw and head, while the teacher who was shot has been released from the hospital.
Senior Aiden Page was in class when she heard two gunshots Tuesday afternoon – part of what authorities called the “utterly cold, murderous” rampage of a sophomore.
Like in the active shooting drills they practiced, Page watched as his teacher ran in and locked the door, then students shoved desks into it, he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
“We grabbed the computer, we grabbed the scissors in case someone shot in and we had to attack them,” he said, describing how a bullet went through one of the tables they used to block the door.
