We are rapidly approaching the launch of Movie Super Mario Bros. on April 7, 2023 (yes, it’ll be here before you know it!) and we’ve already seen a ton of characters from the first two trailers, including the likes of Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Funky Kong and more.

However, it looks like Nintendo is keeping a few things under wraps, as an unannounced character was discovered through a recent McDonald’s promotion. News coming from Twitter users @Kikaim, who recently posted an image showing eight toys that are said to be bundled with Happy Meal toys in Japan starting this month. Seven of the eight games are fairly straightforward and include Luigi, Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong, Bowser, and two versions of Mario.

As for the eighth..? Well, read on if you don’t mind potential spoilers!

The eighth toy is Luma, one of the star-like creatures that first appeared in super mario galaxy on the Wii and most recently in Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Rosalina’s adopted child, Luma has the remarkable ability to transform into various objects, including entire galaxies. Their inclusion in the film also likely suggests an appearance by Rosalina herself. However, given the Luma’s blue color, it doesn’t seem like this is the more specific Baby Luma, although we assume that Specific characters will also appear.

Of course, it all makes sense when you think about it. After all, consider what Peach said in the latest trailer: “There’s a huge universe out there with lots of galaxies. It’s all up to us. No pressure!” So yeah, that looks pretty convincing to us; not to mention the fact that Mario is literally chasing Luigi through some sort of interdimensional portal.

At this point, it’s probably worth considering which characters will not appeared in the Super Mario Bros. Movie. If we ignore the obvious concept of branching to another Nintendo IP, it looks like the entire Mario gang is here to show up. Consider Paramount Pictures’ rather restrictive approach Sonic Hedgehog movies, Nintendo and Illumination are really going all out for Mario’s animated premiere.
