Aariel Maynor not guilty of murder – The Hollywood Reporter

The man suspected of fatally shooting Jacqueline Avant at her Beverly Hills home pleaded not guilty on Thursday.

Aariel Maynor, 29, of Los Angeles, was charged with one count of murder, attempted murder and felony firearm, as well as two counts of residential burglary with presence.

Maynor allegedly broke into the home of the 81-year-old philanthropist and the wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant on December 1 and shot and killed her, according to authorities. Maynor is also alleged to have shot at a security guard at the site; The guard was not injured.

Maynor’s next court appearance is January 19.

Maynor was arrested about an hour after the Avant shooting on December 1 as Los Angeles police responded to another reported shooting at a residence. Police said they found Maynor in the backyard with a gunshot wound to her leg. After an investigation, it was determined that a burglary had occurred at the residence and that Maynor had accidentally shot herself, authorities said.

After Maynor was charged on December 6, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said, “Mrs Avant is a respected member of our community. Her tolerance and goodwill touched so many lives. My office is working closely with the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments in investigating and prosecuting this case. We must continue to work together to hold those responsible for violent crimes against our communities.”
