ABC News is planning to push new podcasts, launch new series and tune in Good Morning America for sound.
Starting today, the first two hours of GMA will be available as a podcast, allowing for more mobile consumption than programming hosted by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan.
Additionally, ABC Audio is launching a new entertainment podcast, Close up, led by journalist Kelley Carter. The podcast will break down entertainment news and feature interviews with stars, directors, and other celebrities in the entertainment industry. Close up will premiere on February 9, the day after the 2022 Oscar nominations are announced.
Close up and GMA podcast will be available on the new “GMA Channel” on Apple podcasts and on other podcast platforms. Also, podcasts Loud life with LZ Granderson will premiere its second season on Thursday, and will also be available on GMA. The podcast shows Granderson exploring timely topics that affect the LGBTQ+ community.
New podcasts join an existing block medium that includes audio versions of ABC World News, See and 20/20as well as original podcasts like In Plain Sight: Lady Bird Johnson, Dropout and Start here. The company says that 2021 is the best year for podcast listeners, though it didn’t reveal any specific figures.
“ABC Audio has big podcast plans for 2022,” said Liz Alesse, director and EP of ABC Audio’s podcast show, adding that GMA podcasts complement other audio adaptations of TV shows. “We are also continuing to expand our original document library with some exciting projects this year. In addition to building content about our lifestyle and culture, we are working on a number of long-form narrative projects. You can expect to see new true crime titles soon, and we’re gearing up for some exciting collaborations on ABC. ”
