WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out the ability to hide online status for some beta testers with the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android 18.104.22.168. This update is intended to replace the ‘Last Viewed’ tab with the ‘Last Viewed and Online’ tab in the Security section of your Account settings. WhatsApp now gives users an option to change their Last Viewed status. This update will allow users to choose who can see their Last Seen status and who can see when they’re online. This update appears to be rolling out gradually to select beta testers. There is no word from the Meta-owned platform as to when it plans to roll out more widely.
According to one report via WhatsApp featuring WABetaInfo tracking, the WhatsApp for Android beta version 22.214.171.124 is being rolled out gradually. This update is said to include an option to hide online status. However, the update is said to not be available on Game Store. In addition, WhatsApp beta for Android version 126.96.36.199 is said to be compatible with this new feature as well.
To access this option, WhatsApp beta users will have to visit Settings>Account>Security>Last View and Online. Here they will have the option to show their online status to ‘Everyone’ or keep their Last Viewed status. For example, this new option can be used to show your online status to everyone while hiding your Last Viewed status.
Meta CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg yes announced last week that WhatsApp will soon receive three new privacy features, including the aforementioned online status setting. Two other security features include exiting group chats without notifying other members and preventing screenshots when viewing a message once.
