WhatsApp was spotted testing the ability to display Status updates directly from the Chats list. The new addition will likely enhance the Status feature on the instant messaging app as users will be able to see the status of their contacts at a glance. Additionally, WhatsApp has been spotted working on a feature that will allow users to create group polls on the desktop. It will allow team members to vote on a particular option and look at the total number of votes received.

According to a report via WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, instant messaging app owned by Facebook parents Meta currently testing the ability to show Status updates to users directly from their Chats list or when they search for any of their contacts in the app. Status updates will appear when users tap their contact’s profile picture, according to the source. This sounds similar to how you can currently view Stories posted by the accounts you follow on Meta Instagram.

WhatsApp has Status feature built in to provide an interactive experience like Instagram Stories for users since February 2017. Since its inception, the feature has been accessible through a dedicated Status tab on the app. However, WhatsApp seems to be expanding the reach of this feature and allowing users to show their Status updates more prominently by including them in the Chats list.

WABetaInfo shared a screenshot to give us an idea of ​​how Status updates will appear directly through the Chats list. It was taken from a future build of WhatsApp desktopalthough the same feature is said to be available to users on WhatsApp for Android and iOS releases. It is also likely to appear on a beta release for WhatsApp’s mobile clients soon.
