Adele has Spotify turn off shuffle for albums – The Hollywood Reporter
Adele has a simple request when it comes to her new album, 30: listen to the songs in the order she presents them. The British superstar’s wishes were heard by Spotify when the music streaming giant agreed to remove the default shuffle feature, which plays album songs in random order, from its latest LP Miss.
“This is the only claim I have in our ever-changing industry!” Adele tweeted on Saturday night (November 20). “We don’t create albums with care and put a lot of thought into our playlists for no reason. Our art tells a story and our story should be heard as we intended. Thanks Spotify for listening. ”
“Anything for you,” the streaming service tweeted in response to the singer.
A Spotify spokesperson further explained the changes in a statement to Billboards on Sunday morning (November 21).
“As Adele mentioned, we’re excited to share that we’ve begun rolling out a new Premium feature that has long been requested by both users and artists to set the default play button on all albums. ,” the spokesperson added, adding that users who still want to shuffle an album, can go to the “Now Playing” view and select a shuffle toggle (identified by two criss-crossing arrows). “As always, we will continue to iterate on our products and features to create the best experiences for both artists and their fans.”
30 is the long awaited sequel to 2015 25, hit a record in its first week after selling 3.38 million copies in its first week of release in the US. It was the biggest album-selling week since Nielsen (now MRC Data) began tracking point-selling music purchases in 1991. 25 spent 10 weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 and won a Grammy for Album of the Year. Year and Best Pop Vocal Album of the Year.
“Easy on Me”, lead single by 30, has spent the last four consecutive weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard Global 200, and Billboard Global Excl. United States chart. In mid-October, the track was also the most streamed song on Spotify within a day. Adele performed “Easy on Me” and three other songs from 30 – “I Drink Wine”, “Hold On” and “Love is a Game” – in the CBS primetime TV special Adele: One night only, which averaged 9.92 million viewers, time zone-adjusted fast country ratings from Nielsen.
