Internet users saw an ad-free internet for several hours on Thursday night.
At 8:04 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Google post that it is “investigating reports of problems with Google Ad Manager.” Although users can enter the program, they “see error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior”.
Most importantly, ads are inactive, meaning users don’t see ads on the websites of companies using Google Ad Manager. “Ad Manager is not delivering ads to affected users,” Google wrote in its crash report.
A few hours later, at 10:40 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Google said that it solved the problem, writing that “ad serving has now been restored”.
Google didn’t share any information about the extent of the outage in its post, but users on the social network speculated that it could happen globally, with customers in the US and Canada. and Japan reports Twitter that Ad Manager is not working.
Google Ads Manager is a digital market where customers can buy and sell ads across multiple networks. This service is mainly used by large publishers engaged in direct sales to ad buyers. More than 80% of major publishers say they use Google Ad Manager to manage their ad sales.
Other Google advertising services appear to be working. The search giant does not report problems with AdSense or AdMob, their advertising services for smaller websites and mobile developers respectively.
Advertising is an important part of Google’s business. Google earns 54.48 billion USD from advertising sales in the third quarter of this year in total revenue of $69.09 billion.
