Netflix Updates Its Cultural Guidelines
Netflix recently updated its corporate culture guidelines for the first time in five years. The guidelines, last changed in 2017, now include a new section called “Artistic Expression”. Elaborating on this, the guidelines read: “Not everyone likes – or agrees with – everything on our service. We let our viewers decide what’s right for them, instead of letting Netflix censor specific artists or voices.”
It added: “As employees, we support the principle that Netflix delivers multiple stories, even when we see some titles that go against our personal values. Depending on your role, you may need to work with titles that you consider harmful. If you find it difficult to support our breadth of content, Netflix may not be the best place for you. “
The update in the guidelines comes after many Netflix employees protested the removal of comedian Dave Chappelle’s ‘The Closer’ special. Protesters say it is particularly discriminatory and homophobic. Also read: Netflix live streaming coming to you soon!
