KATY, Texas – Six people were injured after Harris County Coalition District 5 said a fight broke out in a West Harris County park Monday afternoon.
Deputies from the Constable Ted Heap Office said the altercation occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at Malcolm E. Beckendorff Park on the 1800 block of Katyland Drive near Katy Hockey Cut Off Road.
According to Pct. 5, a scuffle between 11 to 18 students attending Paetow High School broke out and two people were stabbed and four others injured, including a minor. Delegates said bats and knives were found at the scene. There are reports that some bats have broken car windows.
Two of the injured were taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Another person, the suspect in the stabbing, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with a dislocated shoulder and non-life-threatening injuries. He is currently in custody.
Delegates said the altercation started between two girls.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene.
Katy Private School District released the following statement:
Katy ISD police and local law enforcement are actively investigating a riot that took place in a Harris County park after school ended today. At this point, many students are said to have participated in the melee. Campus and District authorities are working closely with law enforcement to complete a thorough investigation. Anyone found to be involved in the incident will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Discipline Management Plan, as well as any potential criminal consequences. Out of an abundance of caution, ISD officer Katy will also be tasked with patrolling the area until the investigation is complete.
