Aidar Health aims to provide physicians with consistent critical patient information TechCrunch

Sathya Elumalai found it difficult to manage her mother’s health after she was diagnosed with four chronic conditions. Instead of guessing her state of health for the day, he decided to find out together Aidar Healthto obtain that information directly and reliably.

In founding Aidar, Elumalai also created and launched MouthLab, a device that it claims tracks 10 key health parameters in less than a minute. The company was part of the Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt 2022.

“For a car, you have this check engine light that helps you say, now is your time to get your car. [to a] dealer or repairman. Similarly, our device acts as a way to monitor your health every day, to provide a more holistic view of an individual’s health,” said Elumalai. “So if there is any abnormality or any change in that health from the original, the device can alert and inform the user about those changes and what they can do to help manage your health. Or use similar data to communicate with doctors or their caregivers to better assess health status or health changes or deviations at a very early stage.”

The user holds the iPhone-sized device and puts his mouth on the mouthpiece, breathes normally, and places his hand on the device as directed. The company claims MouthLab will record temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory pattern, heart rate, heart rate variability, ECG, spirometer (i.e. lung function) and saturation oxygen. Data is collected from sensors on the device from saliva, breathing, hand pulse and lips to read the parameters of the body.

In a world where digital and telemedicine have become the new standard thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, doctors often have to follow what their patients say, this is a good starting point. but not enough for long-term care. Despite the tests and labs performed ultimately there is no effective way to monitor a patient’s biomarkers at home.

Aidar Health was able to obtain FDA 510(k) class II certification earlier this month. The clearance says the device poses some moderate risk to users but allows the company to present the product for commercial distribution and to market it. It is not clear what risks the clearance refers to. According to the company, the device has undergone three clinical trials and is embarking on research in partnership with the VA Health System.

Today, there are more than 800 active users of MouthLab and Aidar Health, using it for remote vitreous monitoring, chronic care management, and other home health services – as well as “creating efforts to create real-world evidence with life science companies,” says Elumalai (the latter probably means participating in studies).

“The device is being used for Remote Physiological Monitoring (RPM), Chronic Care Management (CCM), Home Hospital (H@H) services with medical system and imprint development. digital biology, digital companion, and real-world proof-of-life efforts Elumalai told TechCrunch.

The Maryland-based company says it’s HIPAA compliant, by using its own cellular/LTE network cloud. Once the data is collected, it is sent to the user via the mobile app and then sent to the doctors through the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource, an API for health records electronic health.

The company decided to run on a subscription-based model, which costs $50-80 per patient per month. Users are provided with MouthLab, access to the web and mobile apps, and physicians can collect key metrics and analyses. Depending on service usage, prices may vary.

“It’s hard to decipher what the patient is really going through,” says Elumalai. “But a device like this, before we get a doctor to do telemedicine, we can get the data for them right away. So they get a complete snapshot of the patient’s medical history, a longitudinal analysis of the data over the past few days.”
