All six American football games enabled (Yes, you read that right)
As we write this, it’s almost time for the 2022 SUPER BOWL launch, which we understand must be chanted with great enthusiasm. As a bit of history, at NL Towers during Thanksgiving 2021, we had a great idea – “let’s make a list of the best NFL-style for the Switch, like fit soccer/soccer we did in the summer! “
Oh, how we patted ourselves on the back, and now we’ve revisited this list knowing that the Super Bowl (or Superb Owl for you wits) is one of those great sporting occasions. world and – as we write this – takes place right around the corner. Even though your humble (stupid) scribe is a Chicago Bears fan and has no bears in the upcoming game, I’ll be watching the big game in the early hours of Monday morning in the UK while munching on cookies. . That is a dream.
Over Thanksgiving last year, we painstakingly scoured the Switch eShop and the Internet to figure out what fun games to include on this list and tackle on… All of them. To say that those are slim options would be an understatement but it now has an additional game – Classic bowl new on the eShop, join the list and be full bloomso that’s good.
Interesting!

Retro Bowl, like most of the games on this list, takes a stylized approach inspired by the Tecmo Bowl; it’s quite addictive. You are the General Manager / Head Coach / Winger in this game; The ‘sim’ section lets you pick players in draft, trade players, play nice with owners, renew contracts, appease fans and more. The actual game is all about stepping back and playing midfield, and that’s great fun. A fun distraction in the making of a big game or to get you through a long season.

We don’t exactly compliment this in our review, but the developers promised months ago to add the missing content in a free update. Some also liked the game, a spiritual successor to a hit classic on the SEGA Mega Drive; it plays like ‘real’ football to an extent, though of course the concept means there’s all the extravagance and violence going on as well.

SNK has produced a series of sports games for Neo Geo, so naturally this is the American Football entry in the series. It features chunky textures familiar to fans of the company’s output, with some neat details like animations celebrating the best player and a fancy ball that spirals as it soars. space. As expected, of course, the Switch version of Arcade Archives is packed with features and small options thanks to the work of HAMSTER.
This is only available on the North American eShop (we couldn’t find it on the UK store, in any case), with it being a premium version following the previous mobile release. It takes some inspiration from the Tecmo Bowl but naturally offers a more modern look, faster pace, and additional depth of play options. It also throws in some combat for humorous effect, while the season mode has some RPG-lite twists. All told, it’s a game that seems best suited for modest expectations, short bursts, and laid-back fun.

This is a game that has a place in many people’s hearts, especially as the original NES version offered (at the time) dizzying depth in terms of technology. So it’s interesting that we can experience the more technically impressive version found in many arcade movies of the late ’80s. It’s amazing how different from the iconic 8-bit versionso if you are curious what Tecmo can achieve without hardware limitations then this version of the eShop is well worth a look.

Yes, we had to cheat to get six games, which is how limited American Football titles are on Switch. This is the rather different but much-loved NES version of the game. It’s not on the eShop, but it To be in the NES app for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. If that doesn’t make NSO worth signing up for, then we don’t know what to say…
And that’s it, it’s time for the winning squad. Not quite a party, right? We’ve tried our best, but the Switch isn’t suitable for many American Football games. In any case, let us know your favorites – and any that we’ve somehow overlooked! – in the comments section.
Honestly, we’d like to sum this up a bit – please let us know we missed a few!
