Alouettes hand Blue Bombers first loss of ’22 during wild OT finish – Winnipeg
The Montreal Alouettes handed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers their first loss of the season with a narrow 20-17 win on Thursday.
Marc Liegghio made a goal-scoring effort 37 yards out of goal in extra time, correcting the Bombers’ loss. It was Liegghio’s second consecutive miss after he failed to convert a potential 32-yard game winner in the final seconds of regulation.
Winnipeg entered the competition with a perfect 9-0 record and was looking for its first 10-0 game since 1960.
Montreal’s Trevor Harris completed 18 of 27 213-yard passes without a touchdown or interception. Both of Alouettes’ touches were punched by Dominique Davis.
The bombers trailed the Alouettes 369 to 283 yards and outplayed their enemies 118-70. Winnipeg ran back Brady Oliveira accumulated 84 yards in while quarterback Zach Collaros threw 251 yards with a touchdown.
Winnipeg beat Montreal on the road last week 35-20. The Bombers will bid farewell before resuming their schedule with a game against the Calgary Stampeders on August 25.
