Amazon Prime Video launches 23 Indian movies, Tie-up With YRF, Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar
Amazon Prime Video has announced 23 Indian films over the next two years – including three original films, two co-productions and a “special co-production”. The remaining 17 licensed films come from companies such as Dharma Productions owned by Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, Ajay Devgn FFilms by Ajay Devgn and Yash Raj Films run by Aditya Chopra. These films will open in theaters before streaming exclusively on Prime Video globally. Comedy-drama led by Madhuri Dixit Nene, Maja Maa leads people directly to Prime Video. Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu – which we’ve now got our first look at – is one of the co-produced films. And Tiku Weds Sheru led by Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a special collaboration.
This confirms the end of France’s ties to Netflix, on both streaming originals and exclusive movie theater deals. 23 Indian movies are part of Amazon’s Thursday’s “Prime Video Presents India” event in Mumbai, where it was announced the list of 58 titles – 41 original series, films and documentaries, and the aforementioned 17 licensed films from Bollywood studios – will release within the next two years. Amazon says this is part of its efforts to double its investment in local content production over the next five years.

On Telugu language Ammu, in an attempt to get her abusive husband suspended from his police service, Ammu did the unthinkable. Aishwarya Lekshmi, Naveen Chandra and Bobby Simha lead the cast. Charukesh Sekar directs the script, which he co-wrote with Padmavathy. Ammu is the manufacturer of Stone Chairs.
Aye Watan… Mere Watan are inspired by real events. It is the story of a young girl who became the sole instrument of India’s struggle for independence and freedom. Kannan Iyer directs, and Darab Farooqui writes. Aye Watan … Mere Watan is a product of Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. No cast has been revealed.

Maja Maa, with Madhuri Dixit Nene, is a heartwarming, humorous story set in Baroda (now Vadodara) about a benevolent mother who unwittingly becomes a barrier to her son’s marriage plans and fights adhere to social norms. Gajraj Rao, Ritwik Bhowmik, Barkha Singh, Srishti Shrivastava, Sheeba Chaddha, Rajit Kapur and Simone Singh are also part of the cast. Anand Tiwari is in the director’s chair, while Sumit Batheja is in charge of writing the script. Amritpal Singh Bindra is the producer. Maja Maa is a product of Leo Media Collective.
In Neeyat, as guests begin to die at the birthday resort of exiled billionaire Ashish Kapoor, detective Mira Rao must unravel the diabolical motives as the suspects are Kapoor’s close friends and family. Vidya Balan, Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Mita Vasishth, Neeraj Kabi, Shahana Goswami, Amrita Puri, Dipannita Sharma, Shashank Arora, Prajakta Koli and Razvi Denmark form the cast. Anu Menon directs.
