Amazon’s First Content Deal With African Studio Inkblot In Nigeria – The Hollywood Reporter

Amazon Prime Video has made its first foray into African content, signing a multi-year licensing agreement with Nigerian production company Inkblot Studios.

The pact – Amazon’s first on the continent – follows a similar series of deals as Africa becomes one of the major new battlegrounds for subscriber growth. Last year, Netflix signed its first multi-film deal with Nigerian producer Mo Abudu, EbonyLife, which also renewed its TV deal with Sony.

Under the new deal, Prime Video will make upcoming Inkblot movies available to a global streaming audience after they hit theaters. Features include 2 setting, Moms at War 2 and New money 3, as well as new titles like Fees and Guarantees, Super star and Blood Covenant.

“We know Prime Video customers around the world love movies, and this new deal with Inkblot Studios will make some of the best Nigerian and African films available to our customers,” said Ayanna Lonian, Prime Video’s director of content acquisition and head of major worldwide studios said the licensing strategy.

“The stories of Nigeria are truly some of the most exciting and thrilling in the world. The Inkblot deal will allow us to deliver great Nigerian movies, posting in their theaters in Nigeria, to our global audience and will continue to build on Prime Video’s portfolio and goals to please Prime members. ”

The deal comes just a month after a Prime Video delegation attended the Africa International Film Festival in Lagos in November, where local originals international chief James Farrell and marketing director Ukonwa Ojo had keynote at the opening session, outlining the company’s intention to start developing, producing and licensing content with African content producers.

Chinaza Onuzo, co-founder of Inkblot Studios, said: “At Inkblot Studios, we produce some of the most original, largest and most innovative films in the Nigerian film industry. We’re excited about the opportunity to showcase our movies to over 200 million Amazon Prime Video members. We believe that Nigerian films have real global appeal and are delighted to partner with Amazon Prime Video to bring the best in entertainment around the world. ”
