American girl receives backlash for children’s book that appears to promote gender transition and ‘pull that blocks puberty’

Doll brand American Girl has faced public backlash for a book that “encourages young girls to discover their identities” and provides information “about the transition,” according to the newspaper. TMZ report.

According to Fox Business, the novel “advises kids struggling with body image” to ask their doctor about “puberty-blocking drugs” if they feel unsure about their gender but aren’t ready. make a permanent change. Additionally, the novel encourages children to seek transgender support from trusted “national organizations” – even if they have to do so without parental consent.

Despite the backlash, the company doubled down on its decision to release the novel titled The Smart Girl’s Handbook: Body Image Book.

American Girl shared an exclusive statement with TMZ.

We value the views and feedback of our customers and take note of their views on this matter. The content in this book, intended for children 10 years of age and older, was developed in collaboration with adolescent health and care professionals, and emphasizes the importance of talking and Discuss any feelings with a parent or trusted adult. We are committed to providing content that makes our readers feel well informed, confident and positive about themselves.

Book

The subtitle of the 96-page book, intended for children aged 10 and up, reads: “how to love yourself, live life to the fullest, and celebrate all body types.” According to the American Girl website, the book includes “activities, tips, crafts, and true stories about girls.” The description states that the novel is a “pleasant reminder that all bodies are worthy of love and respect.”

However, many parents felt otherwise, calling the book “scam” and “dangerous”, as reported by the Daily Mail. According to the outlet, a passage in the book reads:

If you haven’t hit puberty, your doctor may prescribe medication to delay your body’s changes, giving you more time to think about your gender identity.

Again:

Parts of your body can make you feel uncomfortable and you may want to change your appearance. That’s totally fine! You can appreciate your body for everything it allows you to experience and still want to change certain things about it.

Parents’ reaction

Parents wasted no time sharing their thoughts on the body image book. Many have taken to Instagram, leaving comments on the brand’s recent posts.

You’ve gone from telling girls to love and take care of their bodies to telling them they may need puberty blockers if they don’t like themselves. This is a deadly message and you deserve every backlash you’re getting and then some.

I just saw an article about your Body Image book for girls. Are you kidding? I’m in shock! Really disgraceful. Your company has chosen this path, it can live with the consequences. I will not buy your product again.

I spent a lot of money with all of you… trusted your company to promote healthy body image to young girls. Disgusting choice to promote transgender children No no no.

Disappointed in this brand for having assimilated into the awakened culture. Stop pushing this ideology on CHILDREN. Will not support this brand!!!

Roommate, do you think the company has gone too far?
