Microsoft has begun testing new features and improvements for Windows 11 in Internal preview. The update brings a number of new features, changes, and improvements to the operating system. However, the most notable update is Windows Subsystem because the Android on Windows 11.
The company has updated the Windows Subsystem for Android with Android 12.1 aka Android 12L. For those who don’t know, Android 12L is a version of Android 12 designed for larger screen devices like tablets, etc.
Starting today, users in the Windows 11 Insider Preview Dev Channel ring running version 2204.40000.15.0 can now run Android apps on Android 12.1.
This means that Windows 11 will run Android apps on top of the latest version of the Android operating system. In addition, the update also brings improvements in the integration of Android applications with the Windows operating system.
According to the official changelog, Android apps can now show pop-up message notifications in Windows notifications. Additionally, the Windows taskbar can now also show whether an Android app is using a microphone or location services.
The update also resolves the issue of restarting Android apps after waking the system to standby. The changelog suggests that Android apps will no longer restart after resuming from sleep. In addition, Microsoft has also updated the Windows Subsystem for Android Settings application. The company has also added improved networking capabilities.
While all the new changes seem to be pretty big, it’s currently rolling out in the Dev Channel Insider Preview and it’s bound to bring some bugs and issues. We recommend that you install the update only on the secondary machine.
