Anne Murray: New documentary recounts singer’s career
TORONTO – Anne Murray’s rise from small town to international music star is getting documentary seriousness.
Producers say a new film focusing on the life of the Springhill-born NS singer will premiere next month, first in theaters and then on CBC.
“Anne Murray: Full Circle”, produced in association with Universal Music Canada, revives her pre-existing career using “unprecedented footage” from Murray’s “personal archive”.
Murray has sold more than 55 million albums over a 40-year career fueled by a collection of hits including “Snowbird” and “Danny’s Song.” She is the first Canadian female solo singer to hit #1 on the US charts.
The documentary includes interviews with friends and contemporaries, among them Shania Twain, kd lang, Bonnie Raitt and Gordon Lightfoot.
“Anne Murray: Full Circle” will screen one night in theaters across Canada on December 2 before a CBC broadcast on December 17 and a concurrent streaming debut on CBC Gem.
The series is directed by longtime TV directors Morgan Elliott and Adrian Buitenhuis, who have worked on “I Am Patrick Swayze” and several other celebrity-themed “I Am…” documentaries. .
