Another second half stumble as Hamilton Tiger-Cats fall to Argonauts in Toronto – Hamilton
Like a broken record, Hamilton Tiger-Cats managed to blow the second half = the lead. They lost 34-20 against Toronto Argonauts Saturday night.
Ticats stumble 3-6 on CFL season after seeing their arch-rivals recover from a 17-6 deficit in the third quarter.
The win pushed the Argonauts to the top of the East Division table with a score of 4-3.
Toronto took the lead of their first game by about three minutes in the fourth inning. Trevor Hoyte intercepted a hit from Hamilton’s Michael Domagala and Benoit Marion picked up the bouncing ball at the Ticats’ 24-yard line and ran for a touchdown.
The Tiger-Cats took a 13-0 lead thanks to a Dane Evans touchdown pass to Don Jackson at nine yards as well as two goals from rookie Seth Small.
Evans shot 28 for 42 for 302 yards while Jackson made 10 hits for 47 yards and made 8 hits for 67 yards and TD.
But Toronto overtook Hamilton 28-6 in the third and fourth quarters, a repeating pattern for the Cats that have been trailing 145-58 in the second half of this season.
Argos QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 17 of 27 attempts for 230 yards and hit a 13-yard touchdown for Cameron Phillips that gave Hamilton a 17-14 lead midway through the third half.
Small connected on all four of his goals, from 17, 22, 28 and 28 yards.
Toronto player Boris Bede made three of his four attempts, converting from 18, 30 and 44 but missed another 44-yard kick.
The Tiger-Cats and Argonauts will meet again on Friday, August 12 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton.
