Anthony Joshua Promises Before Jermaine Franklin: ‘I’m Not Tormented by War, I’m Fresh’ | boxing news

Anthony Joshua will return to the O2 Arena in London to fight Jermaine Franklin of America on April 1 as he looks to return to the top of the heavyweight division.

Joshua is on his way back from two consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk and the loss of the unified world heavyweight championship.

But the British promised: “I’m not ravaged by war, I still feel fresh.”

He insists that he is intensely focused on this all-important comeback.

“Locked in. It’s a heavyweight opponent, I respect all my opponents,” Joshua said.

“He came to fight. That would make me keep my feet on the ground.

“In all my career, this is probably the most serious I’ve taken.

“Everything I’ve been through, positive or negative, I’m using it to promote this camp.”

Against Franklin, the former player will have his first game against coach Derrick James, and his first time coaching in Houston, Texas.

“I’m a serious person, I’m not there for anything else,” Joshua said. “I’m there with my head down and ready to fight.

“With Derrick here, he certainly has some tricks up his sleeve and we’re looking forward to April.”

James said: “The world has not yet seen the best Anthony Joshua.

“He’s a great fighter. Great sport, great footwork, first of all very intellectual. He understands the sport and understands what I’m asking him to do.”

Joshua has a new focus. He explained that his “fear of going back to the square” led him to “build an empire”. Now he feels he can completely focus on his boxing

“This is a prize sport,” he said. “I do it because I’m good and I hustle.”

Michigan’s Franklin match took place in London last November, losing to Dillian Whyte by a tight margin.

But he still insists: “I feel like I won the fight.

“This is boxing. I won’t cry about it. I have the utmost confidence, I believe I can beat anyone. I never doubt anything. If you doubt, you are in the wrong sport.

“It’s going to be a great moment in my career. I have the will, I have the heart for it. I’m ready to go to war.”
