Anthony Rizzo makes a free agent decision

Three-time All-Star hit 32 home runs for the Yankees in 2022. In 465 hits, he averaged 0.224, scored 77 runs and generated 75 RBI.

There have been reports The Houston Astros will try to sign the 12-year MLB veteran. With a multi-year contract, Rizzo will likely end his career in New York.

He began his career in 2011 with the San Diego Padres when he played 49 games. He was traded in the off-season to the Chicago Cubs, where he experienced great success. In 10 seasons, he hit 242 home runs and beat 0.272. He was also one of the leaders on the Cubs’ 2016 World Series team.

He was traded to the Yankees for the 2021 season. In 179 career games with the Yankees, Rizzo had 40 hits at home with an average of 0.230.

The Yankees will be happy to keep Rizzo and hopefully that’s the start of a trend of re-signing their free agents this season. Aaron Judge is one of the most prominent MLB freestylers ever, and his decision to sign could change the balance of power in baseball.

Rizzo’s signing doesn’t do that, but it does show us the Yankees will do everything they can to get it back to their core.
