Apple’s iPhone is being attacked by the most dangerous app that Apple has now banned. This latest spyware has the ability to hack your iPhone! The Google Threat Analysis Team (TAG), which tracks and analyzes government-backed hacks and attacks, has released a research report on this spyware dubbed ‘Hermit’. It can compromise all iOS devices. It is developed by Italian software company RCS. Once this spyware is on your device, it has the ability to attack iPhone and control certain features, such as recording, making automatic unauthorized calls, etc. It even has can read your email, contacts, text messages, search history on your browser as well as hack the camera to take pictures.

How did this spooky spyware get to your iPhone or Android smartphone? A report by The Sun shared that through the sideload method, Hermit is made available outside of Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store. Sideloading basically refers to media files that can be transferred to a smartphone via USB, Bluetooth, WiFi and similar methods. According to Google, in Android incidents, online attackers most likely disabled the user’s mobile data connection first. Google’s investigation into this spyware found that the spyware also took advantage of Apple’s enterprise certificates with iPhones. Essentially, the Hermit spyware is masquerading as a legitimate app to bypass Apple’s requests and infect the iPhone.

Apple has taken steps to protect iPhone users from the spyware threat

Thankfully, Apple has announced plans to end this spyware attack entirely. It has decided to cancel all spyware related certificates. It simply means that this malicious app containing the Hermit spyware will not be accessible outside of Apple’s App store. This may not completely protect iPhone users from the spyware threat, but it certainly reduces the risk.
