Apple iPhone 14: Tech giant launches ‘most advanced’ smartphone with longer battery life and camera upgrade | Science & Technology News

Apple launched the iPhone 14 as its “highest-end” smartphone – with longer battery life and a host of camera upgrades.

Its four new phone models range in length from 6.1 to 6.7 inches, which means they have larger screens than the iPhone 13.

They can also last all day on a single charge.

However, one expert noted that Apple spent the “biggest leap” – such as a more powerful processor – on the Pro, its more expensive phone.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus come with an upgraded 12-megapixel main camera, which has a brighter flash, wide-angle capabilities, and an action mode for video that adjusts to shake, movement, and shake.

The more expensive Pro and Pro Max handsets have 48-megapixel cameras.

All four phones are equipped with larger light sensors that can produce low-light photos twice the quality of the previous generation.

“Low light photography has always been a challenge given the sensor size on mobile phones,” said Ru Bhikha, mobile expert at leading comparison site Uswitch.com.

“So any improvement there, given the number of images we take every day, would certainly be seen as a worthy upgrade over the iPhone 13.”

However, while the standard iPhone 14 uses the A15 bionic chip of its predecessor, the Pro will be equipped with a faster A16 chip.

“Apple has stood firm on its gun and spent its biggest leap in innovation on its most premium handsets, despite the economic challenges many consumers are facing,” Bikha noted. must face to face.

Similarly, the Pro versions boast an “Always On Display”, meaning users can view basic notifications while the screen is locked.

Revealing the feature at a virtual event, Apple chief executive Greg Joswiack said: “It’s easy to see the time and other core information without lifting the iPhone or touching the screen.

“This makes central information available for those moments when all you need is a glimpse … this is the most advanced display we’ve ever shipped.”

Mr Joswiack added that it’s made possible thanks to the Pro’s “extremely power-efficient” display, which operates with a refresh rate as low as 1Hz.

Mr. Bikha said Apple has removed the iPhone mini seen in previous generations – the “cheapest and most pocket-friendly” phone.

The new phones have also ditched the SIM card tray of previous models, allowing users to network and swap out digital SIM cards.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will also have an “emergency SOS” feature, which means users can still get help over the phone if they’re outside of cellular signal coverage.

Apple says the feature will show users where to keep their phone connected to the satellite.

They will be guided through the questionnaire, and follow-up messages will be sent to centers run by Apple-trained experts who can call for help on their behalf.

Users can also manually share their location via satellite with “Find My” when there’s no cellular or wi-fi connection.

Satellite Emergency SOS will be available to users in the US and Canada in November, and will be free for two years.

No details were given on when or whether the service will be available to UK users.

The iPhone 14 will be available for £849 on September 16, while the Plus will hit shelves for £949 on October 7.

The Pro and Pro Max retail for £1,099 and £1,199 on September 16 and 23.

The virtual event also saw the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra, described by the company’s chief executive officer Jeff Williams as “the most capable and durable Apple Watch ever”.

It’s aimed at those involved in extreme sports – such as deep-sea diving – and is bolstered by a titanium case and sapphire crystal screen protector.
