Apple sets the date to launch the first product of the year

Apple is gearing up for its first major product event of the year.

The company announced Wednesday that it will hold a virtual event, with the tagline “Peek Performance,” on March 8. Apple is rumored to be unveiling a new series of MacBooks and iMacs featuring a second version of powerful internal microprocessor. in the form of a 5G version of the more affordable iPhone SE smartphone and an updated iPad Air.

The invitation to the event, sent to members of the press, comes a day after Apple announced it would stop selling all of its products in Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine.

If the event’s tagline is any indication, Apple will likely play up the importance of its rumored M2 silicon chip. As per a recent report by Bloomberg, Apple’s in-house processors are expected to debut on the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, 24-inch Mac, and the completely redesigned MacBook Air.

Apple launched the first in-house M1 silicon chipset for its computer lineup in November 2020, changing from years of using a one-size-fits-all option from Intel. A year later, Apple introduced the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro lines.

The device is expected to run on Apple’s faster A15 Bionic chip, feature updated cameras, and possibly reduce the classic notch typically found at the top. The next-generation iPad Air is also expected to receive the same A15 processor, 5G connectivity, and a new camera.

In January, Apple reported record revenue for the key holiday quarter driven in part by demand for its latest iPhone line. CEO Tim Cook said at the time that the supply chain that was delayed during the holiday shopping season had since improved, suggesting that people won’t have to wait long to get their hands on new devices. this spring.

Apple’s event will begin at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET.
